Proverbs 12:24 says: The hand of the diligent will rule, But the lazy man will be put to forced labor.
Tell me about it...
This morning when I came to work, I looked down and realized that a small spider had built her web on the inside of a shoe that has been sitting under my desk for a while. I find spider’s webs kind of dreamy but not spiders, and the combination of my pretty black velvet heels, adorned with beads of crystal with the spider inside of it, was equally, whimsical and wrong.
Suddenly I appreciated once again MY pretty black shoes, so I waved my hand in front of her. She didn’t even move. I did it again, nothing. She had claimed the unattended shoe, and now was defending her territory. What a pain! I decided to leave her alone, at least for a while. I was just not inclined to start a war with the tiny occupant of my shoe... what a nuisance…
About 3 weeks ago I was going to bring them back home, but at the end of day, it just felt like another task to my already long list. Procrastination: calling a friend with whom I have been out of touch, checking on how Ceu’s day is going while I’m at work, organizing my checking account, revisiting an unpleasant feeling that has been bottled-up, sending a small donation to a good ministry, all transferred to “I’ll do it later, list”.
Through my fear of spiders God is teaching me to be a more assertive person. I don’t want to wake up someday to the realization that I allowed unsightly occupants, as little as they may be, abiding in anything of mine, great or small. It may be easy to clean the webs, however, facing the spider is another story.
